The 2013 Data Journalism Awards: The 72 Nominees announced!

On Saturday, 27 April during the Perugia International Journalism Festival, The Global Editors Network announced the 72 finalists for the Data Journalism Awards (DJA) (see the gallery of nominees below). The DJA 2013 received over 300 applications from all over the world. The shortlisted candidates represent 19 different countries, including Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, Kenya, Romania, UK, United States, and Venezuela. Applicants ranged from major media groups, regional newspapers, and research groups. An international pre-jury led by GEN chose the DJA 2013 finalists. In 2013, the Data Journalism Awards finalists are in the running win the prestigious prize in one of four categories: Data-driven investigative journalism, Data-driven applications, Storytelling with data, and Data journalism website or section.
The 72 projects will go on to be judged by an international jury of data experts who are world-renowned in their field. Projects from small media organisation / individuals and large media organisations are judged separately. A total of 15,000 euros (around $19,000) will be awarded to eight winning projects.
This year, a special “Public Choice Award” will be nominated. People are encouraged to vote on their favourite data application or visualisation, which are posted below.
The winners of the DJA 2013 will be announced during the GEN News Summit in Paris (19 – 21 June). The ceremony will be held at Hotel De Ville on 20 June at 6:15pm. All DJA finalists are invited to attend the Data Journalism Awards ceremony.
