Editors' Lab Buenos Aires
The team from Clarin.com was the winner of the contest, and they will be invited to the final Editors' Lab competition: The GEN News Hackathon, to be held in Paris during the GEN News Summit, from 19 to 21 June, 2013.
Javier Rodriguez explained the way his team approached the challenge: "Our priority was to find several clean and serious data sources. Of course we also added a crowdsourcing feature to the app, but the main objective was to be able to provide data, which has been checked and re-checked with different sources."
Another team, from La Nacion, was close to the win in this Editors' Lab workshop, with a very comprehensive mini-site project presenting all the criminal data of a district, called "What's going on in my District?" (Que pasa en mi barrio). The project is mixing official criminal data, crowdsourcing and aggregation of criminal reporting from all the Argentinian media.
Each team consisted of three members – a journalist, a developer and a graphic designer – from the same media organisation. The teams were all coached and judged by a jury composed of Dario Datri, the Editor-in-Chief of Clarin.com, Juan Pablo Kutianski, Head of Editorial Technology at Clarin, and Antoine Laurent, Deputy Director of the Global Editors Network and project manager of the Editors' Lab.
