We are convinced that, alongside the digital revolution, editorial quality and sustainable journalism will be preserved firstly by journalists and news producers. GEN is actually the first and only organization taking into account the accelerated media convergence due to the combination of digitalization and fast progression of broadband access. GEN allows editors from all platforms – print, digital, broadcast, news wires… – to gather and work together on present and upcoming journalism challenges. There are several editors' organizations around indeed, some of which GEN will closely work with, but so far, none is taking advantage of the great variety of editors' know-how across the industry. For instance, when the former president and the former vice-president of the World Editors Forum within WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) decided to set up GEN, they meant to be silo-breakers and to open doors to editors from other platforms as well as developers and engineers working for the news media. . So, our fundamental principle is based on the idea that together the editors will be stronger and smarter! We are optimistic about the new digital tools and the new channels of distribution offered to us as news producers and we know, better than anyone, how to make the best out of them in the production of news.
