Volatile times: The opportunities facing news media by 2017
Keynote Dialog
By Jim Chisholm, International Consultant, UK
&
Per Mikael Jensen, President & CEO, Metro International, Denmark

In the first keynote presentation, Jim Chisholm will outline a possible future media landscape, and where the pressures and potentials for growth in media influence and profitability might lie:

- The dynamics of analogue versus digital
-
The vice of the device
- What will be the future economics of news

In the second keynote presentation, Per Mikael will try to provoke a healthy debate about why paid and news are two words almost impossible to say in the same sentence. For Metro International, every single trend (apart from high-pay rights- protected content and, to some degree, niche content of high quality) is pointing towards free.

Ethics in the Fast Lane
In partnership with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Ethical journalism is thinking journalism, but in the open-information environment, when news comes from all sides at a cracking pace, journalists have little time to check facts, verify images or reflect on tricky editorial dilemmas. They are tested most of all when the big story breaks. This session using previously unpublished footage analyses how media in Norway covered the 2011 Oslo terror bombing and massacre of mainly youngsters on a holiday island.

Are Social Magazines and Newsreading Apps game changers?

Personalised news and information aggregation platforms for tablets and smart phones are creating easy methods for users to access and bundle content from multiple information providers and social networks and then to view them a magazine or organised.
