Social Media Editor, Global Editors Network

Location: Paris, France

Role Synopsis: Managing social media presence of GEN activities and programmes, as well as animating the GEN community of developers, designers, journalists and media innovators

Reports to: CEO + copy to Communications Manager

Salary: 2,500 euros / month, 30,000 euros / year

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, international organisation focusing on media innovation. The Global Editors Network (GEN) is a cross-platform community of more than 1,000 Editors-in-Chief, a community open to media innovators. GEN is committed to sustainable, high-quality journalism, empowering newsrooms through a variety of programmes designed to inspire, connect and share, including Editors Lab hackdays for journalists and the Data Journalism Awards. It is a non-profit, non-governmental association.

General responsibilities:

  • Definition and execution of social media strategy including: social media presence for GEN, social media campaigns for GEN Programmes, campaigns for sponsors, GEN Community (relationship with GEN members)
  • Manage new projects
  • Work with the Communications Manager to implement the Communication strategy
  • Monitor media industry innovation news and events
  • Reporting
  • Creative ideas and vision for the GEN image and branding

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • University degree and experience in relevant field (two years minimum)
  • Excellent written and spoken communications and influencing skills
  • Extensive knowledge of social media
  • Fluent command of English and French. Native English speaker preferred. Spanish an advantage
  • Passionate about media innovation, journalism, the future of the industry
  • Creative and fast copywriter
  • Technical skills: tech savvy with basics (office pack, PDF docs), photo/docs editing (Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent an advantage), basis of HTML a plus.
  • Solution-focused
  • Comfortable working in a start-up environment
  • Flexibility: role will require out of business hours, sometimes covering events or travelling on weekends
