Perspecs: Three different sides of the news

Perspecs is a news aggregation experiment launched earlier in January this year (2016) by the Trinity Mirror. Its peculiarity is that it gives the reader two different perspectives on a news or a topic. The project was presented to the third season of the Editors Lab, where they won in the “Surprise” category. The Trinity Mirror is now trying to expand further the project thanks to a grant from the Digital News Initiative. We have asked to Darren Sher, Head of Product at Trinity Mirror, who inherited the project from the original team what happened after the Editor Labs and how they arrived that first concept to a working app available.

Offline: Empowering Millennials to Act on the News

How could news organisations offer their readers more meaningful ways to react to news than just sharing articles on social media? How can they empower their readers to take action?  Those were the challenges that news organisations had to tackle during The Huffington Post and Change.org Editors Lab that took place last April in New York. Mic won the competition with their prototype Offsite: a widget inserted next to the article that indicates to readers how they can act on the cause they have just been made aware of.
