Data Journalism Awards now accepting submissions

In data journalism, reporters leverage numerical data and databases to gather, organize and produce news. Bertrand Pecquerie, the Global Editor Network’s CEO, believes the use of data will, in particular, revolutionize investigative reporting. “We are convinced that there is a bright future for journalism,” he said at the London event. “This is not just about developing new hardware like tablets. It is above all about producing exciting new content.”

First Ever international data journalism awards launched

Data Journalism has seen a steady increase in recognition among the media community in recent years, but today marks a significant step in its growth as the Global Editors Network (GEN) launches its Data Journalism Awards with support from Google and the European Journalism Centre (EJC).
Submissions are now open for the awards, which will be granted in three categories; data-driven investigations, interactive data-visualisations and data-driven mobile or web applications.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assance blasted the mainstream media, Washington, banks and the internet itself as he addressed journalists in Hong Kong on Monday 28 November via videolink from house arrest in England.
There, he defended his right to call himself a journalist and said WikiLeaks' next "battle" would be to ensure that the Internet does not turn into a vast surveillance tool for governments and corporations.
