The Editors Lab

Editors Lab Hackdays


The GEN Editors Lab programme is a worldwide series of hackdays hosted by leading news organisations such as The New York TimesThe Guardian and El País. Editors Lab brings together developers, journalists and designers from top newsrooms to build news prototypes during an intensive two-day competition. The Global Editors Network has already run three successful Editors Lab seasons and the fourth season (2014-2015) is already up and running.

This season will culminate at the Editors Lab Final where the winning teams from each national hackdays will battle it out for the title of Editors Lab Champion. This final competition will take place during the GEN Summit in June 2016.

With this programme, GEN is helping to  create  interaction  between  start­up  innovators  and  media  senior  executives  and  thus  encourage  the implementation  of  innovative  practices  in  the  newsroom.  For  start­up  innovators,  this  programme  is THE platform  to  access  senior  executives  who  can  take  them  to  the  next  level.  For  media  executives, it is a unique opportunity to discover the tools that will shape the future of journalism and to get a fresh perspective on media innovation from the most cutting­-edge entrepreneurs.
