AP Imprensa Editors Lab

Prototyping the Future of News

26 February 2015 - 27 February 2015

The First Editors Lab in Portugal

On February 26-27, GEN and APImprensa, with the support of Google, gathered the best media innovators in Portugal for a two-day competition to develop innovative news prototypes. The theme was: 'New tools to build a digital community of Portuguese-speaking countries. Portuguese-speakers make up one of the largest online language groups, yet this community is fragmented. Conversations are limited to local news sources and audiences. Think about innovative ways to build and engage a global Lusophone community across borders.'

Participating Media

And the Winner is...

Publico, with their app Contextualizando,  a tool for journalists to share bits of info from other Portuguese-speaking publications. Contextualizando allows journalists to easily share snippets of background information they already published on their sites, and makes those snippets available to other news sites from the rest of the Portuguese speaking community.

Winner

Special mentions to Reconquista, with A Praça and MotorPress with Livro do Bébé. The audience choice went to Frater, by Expresso (Team A)

You can see all the projects here, on the GEN Community.

Thanks to our hosts APImpresa and CENJOR, and to Google and the Portuguese governement for their support.
