Philippines Editors Lab

Prototyping the Future of News

The First Editors Lab in Philippines

On 7-8 July 2016, GEN and Rappler with the support of Google, gathered the best Philipine media innovators in Manila for a two-day Editors Lab focused on developing innovative news prototypes.

In partnership with:      SOPA Logo 01

The Theme: “Crisis Reporting in the Philippines"

How can newsrooms cover disasters accurately and effectively? How can news and humanitarian organisations collaborate with government to help prevent casualties in a crisis situation? What role does prevention and education play in the reporting process? What innovations can teams bring to existing mobile and crowdsourcing tools to improve them? Can these tools serve newsrooms in the event of other types of emergencies (i.e. terrorist attacks)?

And the winner is… D5 Studio

The winner of the Philippines Editors Lab is the team from D5 Studio. They will be competing against other Editors Lab winners from this season, next June in Vienna during the GEN Summit 2017.

They won thanks to their project: "Under Pressure"—A simulation training website for journalists. Congratulations to them!

The team from our hosts Rappler received a special mention, along with the team from Inquirer.
