Mediafin won the hackdays in Brussels, RTBF received an honourable mention from the jury. The VRT in Brussels, Belgium was the latest newsroom to host the Editors Lab Hackdays, organized by the Global Editors Network with support from Google. The two-day Editors Lab Hackday saw the RTBF, NOS, Mediafin, MIX, VMMA, MO, and VRT compete to build the most innovative news-driven mobile app, or digital content, around the theme: New Tools for the newsroom of the future - dashboards, smart boards and multimedia walls for monitoring breaking news.
The Winning Apps
Mediafin built a dashboard dubbed "Talking Stock", displaying real time and automated analysis of financial markets with clever widgets visualizing all the charts and events that are behind the fluctuation of the stocks, the winners and losers of the day, as well as the gut feelings of both analysts and investors.
RTBF received an honourable mention from the jury with their original and clever "Other Dashboard", a very nicely designed dashboard measuring original metrics and data, and not the usual traffic and clicks rates (see Vine video below).
