| We thank the hundreds of editors and contributors who sent us their amendments and contributions for our Manifesto. We will be releasing a synthesis of your suggestions shortly. NOW you can become a member of the Global Editors Network. We will gather editors from print, broadcast, news wires, pure online players and also developers and engineers working for news media. We consider that it is essential and vital to break down outdated silos within our community. Please see the presentation below: |
| Meet our Founding Members |
|
Have a look on our list of Board Members. They are editors and top executives at The New York Times, El Pais, BBC, Le Monde, News International, Aftenposten and from many other major media brands worldwide. We were also joined by innovators and media thinkers such as Jeff Jarvis, Dan Gillmor and Kerry Northrup. We also thank the European Journalism Centre for being part of this new adventure through Wielfried Ruetten. |
| Join the Club! |
| Why not join us NOW? We need your expertise and your enthusiasm for defining tomorrow’s journalism and content production. We need silo-breakers and forward-thinking editors. Our registration page is open and we offer you two options to become a GEN Member: – either paying a (small) annual fee – or providing four emails of colleagues. One of our goals is to expand our network and we thank you in advance for making GEN stronger and smarter! |
| Register to our first Study Tour |
|
GEN will set up two categories of study tours: – Newsroom Strategies study tours – Geopolitical study tours. Our first event will take place in Cairo, Egypt from 6 to 9 June 2011 and it will be focused on the following theme: “After the Arab Spring, who will run Egypt and the Arab World?”. Participants will have the possibility to meet outstanding speakers as well as old and new elites. The number of attendants is limited to 15 editors and senior news executives. |
| Annual conference to be announced |
| Our association will hold its first annual conference by the end of the year. We are expecting more than 500 participants from all platforms (print, broadcast, pure players…). You will be surprised by our keynote speakers: we have prepared for you very in-depth sessions and remarkable social events. The city hosting the conference and the venue will also be a surprise… During the conference, the “Newsroom Report” will be distributed for free to all attendants. If you want to receive our updates, please register to our newsletter. |
| Participate to the Editors’ Lab |
GEN will be different from other press associations for a main reason: we want to develop mutualisation and cooperation between our members. We will set up an Editors’ Lab where editors and developers will have the possibility: – to define new journalistic concepts – to develop new tools for our community – to produce news apps offered to members and partners. ![]() |
| Stay tuned for the Editors’ Post! |
| Every week, we will post a new article written by a colleague or a GEN member about the future of journalism and content production. This column will be called The Editors’ Post. For starting, we have asked Reginald Chua, former editor of the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong, to explain his concept of “structured journalism”. He will explain why the internet is reshaping the daily work of journalists as well as the outcome: articles, news databases, info graphics… Thanks in advance to our editorial partners who will provide us with a challenging content on media issues: OWNI , WorldCrunch and Relaxnews. |
