Founded in 2011, the Global Editors Network (GEN) is a Paris-based international association of over 6,000 editors-in-chief and media executives with the mission of fostering digital innovation in newsrooms all over the world. The organization’s annual flagship event, the GEN Summit, gathers over 850 participants from 70 countries. The Global Editors Network also runs the Data Journalism Awards, the first international awards recognising outstanding work in the field of data journalism worldwide.
We are looking for an experienced Director of Communications & Public Relations to join our growing team in Paris. The successful candidate will oversee all communications, public relations, and social media activities in addition to representing the Global Editors Network at conferences, events, and workshops. They will be responsible for developing the organization’s brand strategy, cultivating media contacts, and growing the organization’s social media reach and influence. They will also be responsible for maintaining the organization’s digital presence
Position reports to: Chief executive officer
Staff management: 1 graphic designer
Travel requirements: not exceeding 3% during a period of 10 months
Defining and implementing the communication strategy for the organization and its programs, events, and initiatives. This will include working collaboratively with various functions and people across the organization to create a coherent communication calendar.
Planning, measuring, and reporting on a predefined set of communication KPIs and metrics.
Writing, editing, and designing the organization’s weekly email newsletter as well as press releases and various editorial pieces.
Managing the organization’s social media presence and developing a strategy for growing reach and influence.
Building and maintaining ongoing relationships with the press in addition to securing a consistently high cadence of media opportunities and appearances.
Maintaining and updating the organization’s websites.
Overseeing the work of the organization’s graphic designer and insuring all graphic needs and requests are met.
Organizing and developing email campaigns on behalf of partners and sponsors.
A minimum of four years of experience managing communications and/or public relations at a company with substantial web and social media presence.
An advanced university degree in communication, marketing, advertising, public relations, or a closely related field. A university degree in another topic in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted.
Excellent knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign MailChimp, WordPress, and MS Office Suite.
A keen interest in journalism, media innovation, and/or the future of news.
Fluency in English (oral and written). Basic knowledge of French is desirable.
Knowledge of other languages is an added advantage.
Superb communication skills and the ability to present complex information in an easy-to-understand manner.
The ability to write clear and concise editorial copy.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and client management skills.
Familiarity with Google Analytics and common project management tools.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with remote teams.
Creativity, proactivity, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal work supervision.
Ability of travel regionally and/or internationally for meetings and events.
A laptop will be provided.
Office not wheelchair accessible.
