Founded in 2011, the Global Editors Network (GEN) is a Paris-based international association of over 6,000 editors-in-chief and media executives with the mission of fostering digital innovation in newsrooms all over the world. The organization’s annual flagship event, the GEN Summit, gathers over 850 participants from 70 countries. The Global Editors Network also runs the Data Journalism Awards, the first international awards recognising outstanding work in the field of data journalism worldwide.
We are looking for an already experienced Marketing Manager to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be mainly responsible for driving attendance and ticket sales growth for the GEN Summit. They will set the yearly marketing strategy alongside the CEO and accordingly manage the day-to-day marketing activities. The ideal candidate is tech savvy and has exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. They should be comfortable working with Salesforce, MailChimp, and WordPress.
Position reports to: Chief executive officer
Staff management: no
Travel requirements: not exceeding 5% during a period of six months
Writing and producing email campaigns to targeted segments using MailChimp.
Establishing and maintaining cross-promotion partnerships with other journalism associations.
Communicating with registered participants prior, during, and after the GEN Summit.
Developing and writing the annual end-of-year marketing report and strategy.
Managing and maintaining attendee databases using Salesforce.
Managing key pages on the GEN Summit website and continuously updating information.
Managing the visa application process for GEN Summit participants from various countries.
Running the registration and information desk at the GEN Summit alongside producers and vendors.
Three years of experience in event marketing and promotion.
Background in database marketing and good knowledge of Salesforce (or equivalent)
A university degree in digital marketing, advertising, public relations, or a closely related field. A university degree in another topic in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted.
Experience working with MailChimp and WordPress (or equivalent software for the newsletter and the website)
A keen interest in journalism, media innovation, and/or the future of news.
Fluency in English (oral and written).
Knowledge of other languages is an added advantage.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and client management skills.
The ability to write clear and concise marketing copy.
Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, and common project management tools.
Creativity and proactivity.
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal work supervision.
Ability of travel regionally and/or internationally for meetings and events.
A laptop will be provided.
Office not wheelchair accessible.
Evaluation of qualified candidates will include a series of interviews and may include a functional assessment exercise.
