Amsterdam, Netherlands - 07 April
On April 9-10, the Dutch public broadcaster, NOS and Global Editors Network (GEN) will gather the best media innovators in the Netherlands for a two-day #EditorsLab competition to develop innovative news prototypes. The hackdays will be supported by Google.
The theme will be “News in Context” - developing new ways to anticipate what users want before they turn on their devices. Participating teams will be asked to develop new and innovative user engagement mechanisms based on a user's context: location, browsing habits, moods, etc.
The Amsterdam #EditorsLab is part of a series of international hackdays hosted by world-renowned media organizations, in New York (The New York Times), London (The Guardian), Madrid (El Pais), Buenos Aires (Clarin), Paris (Le Parisien), and many more. It will bring together teams representing news media outlets from all platforms (broadcast, online, print). The teams will be composed of one journalist, one designer, and one developer. You can follow the liveblog on the GEN website.
The participants will benefit from workshops given by Ezra Eemann, Head of Vrt Startup at VRT and founder of Journalism Tools, Bart Brouwers, founder and co-owner of Media52 and Detlef La Grand, founder VRmaster.co. Jan de Jong, CEO of NOS, will present the winning team with their award on April 10.
What is the prize for the winning team?
The winning team will compete against the other winning Editors Lab teams during the Editors Lab Final: the World Cup of Newsroom Innovation. This final stage of the Editors Lab international tournament will occur during the GEN Summit 2015 in Barcelona in June.
