05 November 2015

Karen Burke

On 5-6 November, the Global Editors Network (GEN) and Česká Televize, with the support of Google, will gather some of the best Czech and Slovak media innovators in Prague for a two-day Editors Lab to develop innovative news prototypes.

The theme will be ‘Covering the Refugees and Migrants Crisis with Data’. The teams will explore how data can be used to improve people’s understanding of the journeys made by refugees and migrants through the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They will also look at how data can shed more light on the economic and social impacts of migrations on these countries. Follow the event live via #EditorsLab hashtag on Twitter.

The participants are free to develop a wide range of formats, such as: data visualisations, data-driven investigations, fact-checking analysis, data-driven storytelling, news games, quizzes, etc.

The GEN and Česká Televize #EditorsLab in Czech Republic is part of a series of international hackdays hosted by world-renowned media organisations in New York (The New York Times), London (The Guardian), Madrid (El País), Buenos Aires (Clarín), Paris (Le Parisien), and many more. It will bring together teams representing news media outlets from all platforms (broadcast, online, print). The teams will be composed of journalists, designers and developers.

Participating Teams:

The participating teams include Czech TV, Czech Radio (samizdat team), SME, Slovak TV, New Media team (Philosophy faculty Charles University Prague), Datovazurnalistika.cz, DARK Side team (project Czech in data) and the new media team of Masaryk University Brno.
