Google DNI Awards Fund to the Global Editors Network for its Data Journalism Hub
The Global Editors Network (GEN) is proud to announce it has been selected by Google Digital News Initiative to produce and conduct its Hub on Data Journalism.
The hub will collect, curate, gather and centralise a wide array of resources for data journalists, while also harbouring exclusive content about data journalism. The hub will link and further cooperation among members of the data journalism community (journalists, media organisations, suppliers, press foundations, NGOs, etc.) with all possible forums, tools, platforms, directories, initiatives, programmes, events, etc. and with web applications about and for data journalism, in innovative ways.
Since the launch of the Data Journalism Awards in 2012, GEN has managed to create an exhaustive and specific database of data journalists worldwide; the DJ Hub will exploit this source to give its audience the right tools and informations to further the evolution and prosperity of data journalism as a whole.
“GEN has strived to empower data journalists for the past five years, and we are thrilled to be able to further these projects with the DJ Hub thanks to the Google DNI grant. The very inception of this project, the Global Editors Network Community, comes from the collaboration between Open Society Foundations and GEN in 2014; we look forward to the great work we will undertake in the next few months.”
Bertrand Pecquerie, CEO of the Global Editors Network
"In this second round of funding, in addition to the main criteria of impact, innovation and project feasibility that were set out as parameters from the outset of the Fund, we looked for projects focused on collaboration. The projects that stood out prioritise collaborative approaches between publishers, academics, designers and entrepreneurs, both within a single country and across Europe."
Ludovic Blecher, Head of Digital News Initiative Innovation Fund, Google
"Since its creation in 2011, GEN has become one of the most forward-looking organisations in the world tackling and fostering innovation in the newsroom and beyond, particularly with the GEN Summit which has become the most attended news conference for editors-in-chief and senior news executives, with 750+ participants. The GEN Summit 2017 will take place 21- 23 June, in Vienna, Austria."
