Ochieng’ Ogodo is the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) English Regional Coordinator and the News Editor for the UK based SciDev.Net (Science and Development Network) [www.scidev.net]. This is an online media house with strong focus on news, views and information about science, technology and development on the developing world.
Ogodo is responsible for editorial productions ensuring the delivery of timely, authoritative and relevant science news from Sub-Saharan Africa on the SciDev.Net website. He is also responsible for features, opinions and multimedia content from region.
He oversees marketing activities of SciDev.Net in the Sub-Saharan Africa region as well as digital news production.
He ventured into journalism in 1996 at The East African Standard, one of the leading media houses in Kenya. At The Standard he worked on the News Desk. He also worked on the Investigative Desk for the then widely read investigative pullout, The Big Issue. He comprehensively and expansively covered politics, extensively wrote on human interest issues, personality profiles, entertainment, transport, sport and maritime. Ogodo did commentaries and analysis on major topical issues as well as undertaking Special Projects.
He is the Winner of the English-Speaking Africa and the Middle East region for the 2008 Reuters/IUCN Media Awards in Excellence in Environmental Reporting. He chairs the Kenya Environment and Science Journalists Association and the East Africa Network of Science Journalists.
He has contributed to various publications all over the world, Our Genes magazine of South Africa, Transport International Magazine (UK), The Guardian of UK and National Geographic digital news. Ogodo is involved in research, training and mentoring of science journalists.
