On the 12 & 13 November, Al-Ahram, EMDP - Egypt Media Development Program - and GEN, in partnership with Google, gathered the best Egyptian Newsrooms in Cairo to develop innovative news prototypes. This Editors Lab theme was : ‘New tools to monitor the quality of government services’.

And the winner was...

Welad El Balad, with El Sandoq, an app to bring awareness on garbage in Egypt. A merger of app tech with gaming the idea is to make the inputting of information fun and interactive. if you get out your garbage in the right time you get 50 points, right place another 50 points, reporting of garbage you got 100 point with a photo you got 150 points. As with most of our products, the app is aimed to get people involved and insure public oversight over a basic public service.


Second place to Al Masry Al Youm, with My Experience.
The goal of the project: To monitor the quality of services the government overs to people with special needs and disabilities in Egypt.
