Video Innovation at HKU
On 4 - 5 December, The Journalism and Media Studies Centre of the University of Hong Kong and the Global Editors Network (GEN), with the support of Google, gathered teams from leading media outlets in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia to take part in a competition to develop innovative video news prototypes.
Caixin won the competition with their prototype Hawkeye. Malaysiakini and Wuhan University won special mentions.
The programme was implemented in partnership with the Associated Press, the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA), the School of Journalism and Communication of Chinese University of Honk Kong

The 4 December Workshop
The event will include a morning of workshops on 4 December at the Journalism and Media Studies Centre of The University of Hong Kong. These workshops are open to all media innovators based in Hong Kong that want to discover the latest trends in video journalism.
Workshops will be given by:
- Dorian Stone, Head of YouTube Space Tokyo
- Aritz Parra, Senior Producer at the Associated Press
- Ying Chan, Founding Director of the Journalism and Media Studies Centre of the Hong Kong University
- Sophia Xu, Asia journalist at Storyful,
- Evangeline de Bourgoing, Programme Director at the Global Editors Network
As a media innovators in Hong Kong, you are invited to a networking lunch following the workshops (free of charge). You are also invited to attend the final pitch session on 5 December.

On 4-5 December, seven teams, composed of journalists, designers and developers, will compete to develop the best innovative video news prototypes. The winning team will be invited to take part in the Editors Lab Final in Vienna, Austria at the GEN Summit in June 2016.
The participating teams are: Caixin, Polidata Studio - Guangzhou Daily Newspaper Group, ShenzhenNews.com, Initium Media, MalaysiaKini, EJ Insight supported by Code4HK and Honeycomb Design, Dy Data Media Lab - Wuhan University, HKU, Renmin University.
