Vocento won the Editors Lab - El País Hackdays
On January 31 and February 1 2014, GEN and El País organized the Editors Lab Madrid: 11 teams had two days to develop an application on 'Liveblogging and Breaking News'. Vocento was the winner, and will compete against other winning teams at the Editors Lab Hackdays Final at the GEN Summit 2014in Barcelona. The event was supported by Yahoo! News and CaixaBank.
The Vocento team describes their winning app as a tool that 'allows multimedia coverage under a liveblogging concept, specially geared towards journalists conducting the coverage and towards users who are close to the event, treated as privileged witnesses'. As members of the Madrid local Vocento newsroom, Fernando Belzunce, Carlos Caneiro and Iván Manzanas wanted an app able to connect users and journalists, and also bring context to the news. As they say: 'We want music, not noise'. The app is a really good tool for fact-checking and it allows easy access to curated content.
The jury gave special mentions to two other teams: El País and 20 minutos. The jury was very pleased with the work of all the teams: 'Today we had eleven winners' said Bersoza.
