What happened in Season 5?
The Global Editors Network has already run four successful Startups for News seasons and the fifth season was launched in March 2016.
From March to May, GEN, in partnership with Futurezone.at, Journalism.co.uk, Storyful and Telekom Austria Group, the Vienna Business Agency and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Vienna (Wirtschaftskammer Wien) showcased 16 cutting-edge startups. These 16 startups faced off through online pitch battles. Every week, the video presentations of two startups working on a similar theme were posted on the GEN website. The public voted for their favourite startup. The 8 winning teams participated in the Startup for News Final which took place at the GEN Summit 2016 in Vienna. The winner receives private mentoring sessions with our board members, a stand in the prestigious expo at the GEN Summit 2017, great exposure to our powerful network of media innovators through GEN’s social media channels and our newsletter
The Startups for News finalists came from the UK, the US, Brazil, Israel, Italy and Finland.
The Winner of Season 4: Trint
The winner of the 2016 Startups for News competition is the innovative speech-to-text startup Trint. Its browser-based platform converts any audio or video file to text in minutes. Trint’s interactive editor marries audio to the text, making it easy to search and polish transcripts to perfection. Hours of tedious labour are reduced to just minutes.
We would also like to give a special mention to Valossa. Valossa created a proprietary AI platform which understands the deep content data of videos and provides novel solutions for discovery, content production and contextual advertising.
